Introduction to the Pitlochry Workshops
The story of Sweet Fanny Adams in Eden was familiar to many in Pitlochry. The original theatrical version of the story was performed in the Scottish Plant Collectors Garden in 2003.
Edinburgh based company Creative Artworks led the workshops at Pitlochry School over 2 weeks in June 2005. The 10 year olds in Primary 6 at the school explored the story’s main character Lily, based on butterfly collector Margret Fountain, and Little Red Riding Hood. Scenes from her life (including some new stories imagined by the children themselves) were carefully illustrated on clay-and-cardboard butterflies.
Meanwhile, the 12 and 13 year olds in Secondary 2 researched traditional myths of the Four Winds, and painted five striking murals that will illustrate scenes in the interactive film adaption, Sweet Fanny Adams in Hyperspace Eden.
Director Leo Warner was delighted with the children’s efforts. He said: “It is fantastic to see such a creative response to the story. The paintings make new connections between the various themes in the play. They have influenced how we will edit the film elements of the project.”
